Welcome to the Community Corner!
Event Calendar
The Community Relations department is responsible for outreach and communications programs for community groups, advocacy groups and elected officials. We are engaged in a variety of initiatives to keep citizens updated on our activities and engage them in an ongoing dialogue. There are three pillars to our community relations strategy:
• Information—Chicago 2016 will keep communities informed of our plans and activities.
• Understanding—By listening to citizens throughout the city, state and region, we’ll become aware of concerns related to our bid and work with these groups to find solutions.
• Presence—Chicago 2016 has participated in forums, roundtable discussions, festivals, parades and other events since its inception, and we are working constantly to expand our presence at these functions.
Your help and engagement are vital. Please visit our site often to stay informed, view our calendar and learn how you can get involved.
Recent Community relations events
On June 2 and 3, members of the Community Relations and International Relations teams worked with Chicago’s Lycée Francais to host an International French School Sporting Competition. More than 200 French-speaking students from across the United States, Canada and Mexico came to participate in this multisport, co-ed sporting event. The event provided an opportunity to present an overview of the Chicago bid to parents, students and teachers while highlighting the bid’s emphasis on youth and sports.
On June 3, Gyata Kimmons and Greek Olympian John-Andrew Kambaris (bobsled, 1998, 2002) spoke to students, parents and teachers from six schools at the UIC campus to commemorate the kickoff of the United Neighborhood Organization UNOlympics Summer Reading Program. UNO is Chicago’s largest metropolitan Hispanic community organization and operates a network of charter schools throughout Chicago.
From June 9 and 16, the Community Relations team hosted a series of presentations throughout the Chicagoland area designed specifically for ethnic organizations and groups.
On June 16, Gyata Kimmons presented a bid overview at a Community Development Forum hosted by the Illinois Institute of Technology and the City of Chicago's Department of Planning & Development. The purpose of the Community Development Forums is to provide institutions, municipal agencies, departments, and development entities in Bronzeville an opportunity for information sharing.
On June 18, 19 and 25, the Community Relations team traveled to the DuPage Mayors and Managers Conference, Woodfield Chicago Northwest Convention and Visitors Bureau and McHenry County Council of Governments to present overviews of the bid.
