On Tuesday, June 17, Chicago 2016 hosted hundreds of volunteers for Volunteer Appreciation Night. The event was held to recognize and celebrate the efforts of volunteers in helping Chicago make the Candidate City phase.
Currently, Chicago 2016 has nearly 3,500 volunteers signed up to support the city’s Olympic and Paralympic bid. Over the past year, volunteers have given their time to the bid committee in a variety of ways, from riding on Chicago 2016’s float in parades to working in the Chicago 2016 offices. Chicago 2016 is proud to have so many dedicated volunteers who are committed to bringing the Games to the city.
Patrick Ryan, chairman and CEO of Chicago 2016, said, “The contributions of our volunteers have been remarkable in helping Chicago’s bid get to the Candidature phase of the bidding process. Thousands of Chicagoans have lent their time and energy to the cause, making a significant contribution to the bid. Their willingness to help is an indication of the support for the bid throughout the city and region.”
