Duplicate - World Sport Chicago Donates Gear to Slovakian Wrestling Federation

Gift Will Outfit National Teams

February 09, 2007

Chicago 2016 Newswire -

CHICAGO (February 9, 2007) – World Sport Chicago has donated wrestling shoes and uniforms to outfit the junior and senior teams of the Slovakian Wrestling Federation.  The gear is scheduled to arrive in Slovakia this weekend.

The gift was made possible by World Sport Chicago through a unique partnership with the official sponsor of USA Wrestling apparel, ASICS America, which provides discounted clothing and shoes to developing international wrestling programs.

World Sport Chicago is a non-profit organization formed to enhance the image, awareness and participation of amateur sport and international competition in the Chicagoland area.

William Scherr, chairman of World Sport Chicago, met recently with Jozef Liba, the secretary general of the Slovakian Olympic Committee (SOC) in Bratislava, Slovakia, to discuss opportunities for partnership between the SOC and World Sport Chicago.

“After discussing the need for new uniforms and shoes with our Slovakian friends, it became evident that World Sport Chicago could utilize our resources and help,” said Scherr. “We’re happy to do so, and excited about the opportunity to make a difference.”

World Sport Chicago recently held its first international competition, The Chicago Cup, on Tuesday, February 6.  The Chicago Cup, a wrestling event which featured the U.S. National Team against the Russian World Champions before a nearly sold-out Welsh-Ryan Arena, will be televised on a taped-delayed basis on WYCC-TV in Chicago on Saturday, Feb. 10 at 7 p.m. and again on Sunday, Feb. 11 at 4 p.m.
