Delegation from Chicago 2016 to Attend ANOC in Beijing
Event Provides Valuable Opportunity to Engage with Leaders in Olympic Movement

When the general assembly of the Association of National Olympic Committees (ANOC) convenes in Beijing on April 7, a contingent of key leaders from Chicago 2016 will be in attendance. The ANOC general assembly, which occurs every two years, allows the committees from each of the world’s 205 countries to share insights and experiences, discuss issues and set priorities and become more aligned and integrated with the Olympic Movement.
This event, which concludes on April 10 with ANOC’s joint meeting with the executive board of the International Olympic Committee, is a prime opportunity for Chicago 2016 to learn about the issues other national Olympic committees care about and incorporate these findings into its plan for the Games.
Pat Ryan, the bid’s chairman and CEO, who will lead the group, said, “I’m looking forward to meeting and working with the leaders of the Olympic Movement throughout the world. As we move forward in the bidding process, the knowledge Chicago 2016 gains from events like these will make our plan that much stronger.”
ANOC engages in a range of activities that include holding regular organizational meetings; supporting amateur sports in underprivileged nations; providing assistance and scholarships to athletes, coaches and technical officials; and helping to communicate and promote Olympic ideals throughout the world, among other efforts.
The delegation from Chicago 2016 also includes Lori Healey, chief of staff for Chicago Mayor Richard M. Daley; Michael Conley, president and CEO of World Sport Chicago; and Bill Scherr, chairman of World Sport Chicago and a Chicago 2016 board member.
Chicago is honored to be competing for the privilege of hosting the 2016 Olympic and Paralympic Games alongside such world-class cities as Baku, Azerbaijan; Doha, Qatar; Madrid, Spain; Prague, Czech Republic; Rio de Janeiro, Brazil; and Tokyo, Japan.
